Kimiko enrolls in In-between’s prestigious new high school, which is designed to promote the integration of human and inhuman races. She has to act as the mediator, bridging the formidable cultural gap, but the other two members of her trio don’t need any help in that department. Akira and Suuzu have been friends since high school.

The second book in the series is great and, while not strictly necessary, you’ll enjoy the most if you’ve already read book one, as there are repeating characters. Again, this falls somewhere between fairy tale, manga and romance, but is set in “present day” when it comes to subways.
Kimiko has been accepted into the new high school where humans, Reavers and Amaranthine attend. While she considers herself and her family normal, Kimiko tries to learn the physical language of Amaranthine.
With her positive attitude and actions, she is gradually recognized for her strengths. With her good deed, she accidentally finds herself engaged to her classmate, who would never have the option of getting married and having a family of her own. Kimiko’s engagement creates a new opportunity for her sisters in the marriage market.
Notable is the closeness of the relationship between brother, sister and herd; and respect between the characters.
