Thrilling ending to the Skylark Trilogy: Revolution is taking shape in the city within the Wall. The rebels need a leader. After months outside the Wall, Lark returned with Owen by his side, ready to topple the Institute once and for all. Lark’s triumphant return to his homeland is short-lived as another leader emerges to unite the rebels: Eve, a mysterious Regenerator. Lark wonders if Eve’s powers will bring them strength – or bring about the final demise of humanity.

After a really strong start to Skylark and a pretty awesome sequel in Shadowlark, I think I know what’s going to happen with the epilogue to Spooner’s imaginative debut series. I was delighted when my request for Lark Ascending was approved on NetGalley, but when I finally had to sit down and start reading this book, I noticed my enthusiasm waning.

I’m not really sure what to expect from the final book in this trilogy, other than the clear goal Lark has been aiming for from the start. But I guess I was just hoping for more. The first half is incredibly slow-paced (the first two aren’t as fast-paced either), and it doesn’t seem like much is really happening. By the time I was 50% done and things were just starting to take off, I was a bit shocked.

Essentially, this looks like a fairly predictable rebel uprising against the corrupt government. I wanted more imagination and magic – things that really made me love this series in the first place. I wanted to explore more of the relationships here, between Lark and her brothers, between Lark and Eve. I would love to see Oren and Kris, Caesar and Basil grow even more. It seems the only relationship that gets attention time is Lark/Oren and Lark/Nix.
