This novel begins with a reporter interviewing the Rossi family for the local newspaper because Daniel, the son, is a pretty good tennis player. As we explore the relationships between family members, it becomes clear that there is some trouble going on with Emily & Eric’s marriage. Eric works in London on weekdays and goes home on weekends while Emily stays with the kids and works as a university professor. I like the storyline of Emily and her students, who seem to think they are entitled to privileges. When Emily disobeys his request, he causes trouble for her, getting her suspended while her case is investigated.

In London, Eric is drinking excessively and recalls events from 2004 where he was approached by a woman in what appeared to be a Deadly Hot Situation. He comes to London to get rid of the woman who haunts him. He was unable to convince her that she had made a mistake and that there was never anything between them. Eric hid this from Emily.
