All holders, as well as dragon riders, are available to help – except for Nerilka’s father, who refuses to share Fort Hold’s bounty with other holders. Nerilka packed up her medicine and supplies and snuck away to help her. Her quest to help wherever she is most needed eventually leads her to Ruatha Hold, where Lord Alessan is frantically inoculating people against the dreaded plague.

Nerilika has long given up hope of a marriage and a home of her own. She was happy to be helpful and–first the Healers and then Alessan made it very clear that they were grateful for her help.

Little did she know that her new path would change her life forever.
