A New Beginning in Little House in the Sun is a sequel to The House Alice Built which I haven’t read, but there’s enough plot in this novel that I don’t feel out of place at all. Instead, I enjoy immersing myself in Alice’s new life in Cascais, Portugal just like her.

Self-renewal is never easy, and I love that author Chris Penhall gives Alice some of the challenges in this story…finding a home, expanding business options, and navigating relationships her relationship with boyfriend Luis (who was very supportive at first and stayed pretty much that way) is all about things that don’t necessarily fit the protagonist’s vision of her new life, but did bring depth to the story and made all the characters feel so real.
