When Matt Haig developed panic disorder, anxiety, and depression as an adult, it took him a long time to figure out how the outside world could impact his mental health in both ways. positive and negative ways. Notes on a Nervous Planet collects his observations, looking at how the various social, commercial, and technological “advancements” that have created the world we live in can actually stand in the way of our happiness. how are we.

Haig looks at everything from universal phenomena like inequality, social networks and news; to things that are closer to our daily lives, such as the way we sleep, the way we exercise, and even the differences we draw between mind and body.

With goodwill and seriousness, Haig shared a lot of reasons to worry and that made me worry even more. I think that if you haven’t had a lot of therapy, you will learn quite a lot from this book as well as the advice and perspectives that the author gives. However, if you’ve been through therapy, none of this is new to you. As I noted above, I wish the author could ignore the long list of reasons why I’m worried because they really make me physically anxious. In addition, there is quite a lot of repetitive content in the book that makes it difficult to concentrate.

Haig seems to be a really lovely person and he clearly put the book out there to help people. He’s not a therapist, so of course it’s told from a layman’s perspective. His personal stories are straightforward and helpful to read. I hope that he is feeling better and that those reading this book will learn good techniques and realize that they are not alone. It just wasn’t the book I was hoping it would be.
