Akilah Hughes did a great job in sharing her positive growth story. We all have the choice to give up or move on when life throws us twists and turns. Akilah recounts how she was raised to face the challenges of growing up with humor, ambition and perseverance. Her rolling with punches and continuing to move forward in her childhood has greatly benefited her as she is forging an impressive career. Great book for young women in general, and especially for fans of this emerging genre!

This speaks to another generation, not me. Her tone and writing style are a bit laid-back for my taste. The reverse chronological order of events and lists is a bit confusing. It’s clear that she’s been through a lot and is on the other side, Congratulations! We need more variety of voices and styles in today’s publishing
