Once Upon a Christmas Eve – Audiobook Online

Once Upon a Christmas Eve is a romance book by author Elizabeth Hoyt.
Adam Rutledge, Viscount d’Arque, is actually quite disgusted with Christmas. Ordinary fun. The asinine party game. The worst was the forced trip to the countryside. However, his grandmother loves the holiday – and Adam loves his grandmother, so he will defy the fiercest blizzard to please her. When their carriage’s wheel breaks, they are forced to seek shelter at the home of the craziest, angry, and utterly charming woman he’s ever met….

Sarah St. John is actually quite disgusted with scratchers. Proud smiles. The stares of sly predators. Oh, and the constant witty jokes are rife with double meanings. But in the spirit of the season, she will welcome this admittedly handsome viscount into her home. But as the blizzard rages, the Yule log creaks and the tension mounts, Sarah and Adam find themselves locked in a passionate, burning kiss. If love is the true meaning of Christmas, it’s the only gift this mismatched couple can’t wait to open.

I really love Elizabeth Hoyt’s Maiden Lane series, set in Georgian England, and these accompanying novels are a sweet treat. This season features Adam, Viscount d’Arque, who has played a small role in several feature-length novels. The main female character is Sarah St John, the sister of Godric St John – the hero of Lord of Darkness (#5 Maiden Lane series). However, you don’t need to read any series to enjoy this novel.

The story begins a few days before Christmas. Adam and his grandmother were on their way to a house party when their carriage broke down in a snowstorm. The closest house turned out to be that of Godric St John, who didn’t like Adam very much because he used to flirt with Megs – Godric’s wife – but Adam was a notorious scratcher and flirted with every woman. This is unfortunate because the only woman he really cares about (Sarah St John) really hates scratching…

This novel is pretty short – it took me about an hour to read and finished at 85% with a chapter from Elizabeth Hoyt’s next book at the end – but I really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that I wish it could have been longer! I’ve always felt Adam deserves a book of his own.
