The Jamie’s Privateer series really evolved over the years from humble beginnings to sweeping galactic warfare, exploration, political intrigue, and romance. While not my favorite part, Privateers in Exile took the risk and sent the crew into a distant star system far removed from all that came before. They also lost time, with some crew aging while others stalled. Against all odds and with the help of a new alien race reminiscent of elves, they once again face off against Beleriand, their sworn enemy since book 4.

If you’ve loved the series so far, you might find this a bit jarring. However, it still offers the interaction between the action and the characters you already know and love. I don’t recommend reading this book first, start from scratch.
