World building is fine. It takes place in present-day Earth. The supernatural lives alongside humans, though, in secrecy. Mecca is magic that flows through crystals to the Queen and King, and then from them to their subjects, powering whirlwinds of teleportation (which is actually quite convenient) and spells like So.
The wolves and the bears have a (very) difficult truce, and with the volatile mecca, tensions rise. The scenes and environments are detailed enough without having to spell everything out, making it easy for the mind to fill in the blanks and continue the story seamlessly.
