Queenie Full Audiobook by Candice Carty-Williams

African-American culture and people fascinate us all the time because they are different from the usual pattern of life that we see or follow in our daily life. Queenie the Jamaican is in London trying to get mixed in the new culture and although she has been in the country right from her birth but still she is not one of the native.

Most of the people don’t accept her as a native and now going back to her culture is far more difficult for her as most people think. The constant stress of this racism in the office finally starts getting on to her nerves. The break up with her white boy friend proves to be the last blow and she finally breaks loose. The focus of her mind shifts as she tries to mix herself among the bad people in the bad places.

The element of positivity disappears from her as she starts assuming herself to be a worthless creature. Though she tries to question herself every now and then in order to tell her own self that she should lead a life with a motive otherwise everything is worthless. Still she does not win the battle with the thoughts that have encaged her mind and there is no space which would make her able to let herself loose from the shackles.

Candice Carty-Williams novel is dealing with different issues at the same time. Multicultural issues along with racism prove to be the basic focus of the novel but in the later stages thing like love also emerge which Shvorne Marks has narrated perfectly and we can clearly feel the difference between the two faces of Queenie’s personality.
