Rodham A Novel – Online Free
Rodham is a literary fiction book by author Curtis Sittenfeld.
Named one of the best books of the year by The New Yorker.
In 1971, Hillary Rodham was a promising young woman: Life magazine covered her graduation speech at Wellesley, she was attending Yale Law School, and she was at the forefront. in student activism and the women’s rights movement. And then she met Bill Clinton. A handsome, charismatic southerner and law student, Bill planned his political career. In each other, the two find a deep connection intellectually, emotionally, and physically that they have never experienced before.
In the real world, Hillary followed Bill back to Arkansas, and he proposed several times; although she said no more than once, but as we all know, she finally accepted and became Hillary Clinton.
But in Curtis Sittenfeld’s strongly imagined fictional novel, Hillary chose a different path. Feeling doubtful about her future marriage, she endures their devastating breakup and leaves for Arkansas. Over the next four decades, she forged her own path—one that was open to the public as well as private, including crossing paths again (and again) with Bill Clinton, which That raises questions about the trade-offs we all have to make in building a life.
Skillfully weaving a gripping fiction into real historical events, Curtis Sittenfeld brings a strangely witty and edgy story to our times. In exploring the loneliness, moral conflict and iron determination that characterize the quest for political power, as well as the exhilaration and painful compromises demanded of women’s ambition in a Still largely male-driven, Rodham is a unique and unforgettable novel.
Loving The American Wife and knowing the premise of this book, I would love to read it. I was not disappointed: It took a compelling stance, on Hillary not marrying Bill, and certainly, the choice in the book for her not to do so for me was better, if not better. rather than in real life. Wish fulfilled, I think!
The subject matter is the main attraction and I had to stop myself from reading this biography which it certainly isn’t; I think it’s well-written with some slightly less interesting parts, namely the day-to-day details of political advocacy. I think I’m interested in politics, but not that trifle. Overall, though, the main thrust is good enough to get through that.
Great ending! What has America lost? What have the rest of us lost?
