Just returned from a visit to Moscow and St. Petersburg, I wanted to understand more about the history of this region. This is a huge book, but I keep reading. I am not an avid reader. I love the way the story is told and the genealogy is there to keep people straight in my mind. I don’t know if I had the patience to read it before visiting this country. But I love the way the history is told because it interests me. Many things followed along with what I was told by the tour guide during my visit. I was actually looking to buy Paris: The Novel when I saw Russka. So I bought both and will read Paris next.

I wish I had read this book before coming to Russia. I’ve read a lot of modern Russian stuff and listened to a lot of talks, but Rutherford’s book really helps people understand Russian thinking better. It’s LONG, but it’s worth the read. It’s not scary, as long books tend to be just because of their size. It’s a book that one can really immerse in – in a very positive way.
