Sadie When She Died/ 87th Precinct, Book 26 – Free Full Audiobook

Sadie When She Died is the 26th mystery novel in the 87th Precinct series by author Ed McBain.
Christmas is coming. But erudite lawyer Gerry Fletcher received an early gift: His wife’s body with a knife buried in it. He pretends to be glad she’s dead, but his alibi is tight-lipped and every indication suggests a burglary has gone awry. As detectives Steve Carella and Bert Kling follow the lead of an alcoholic and get a full confession, Carella still can’t stop thinking that there’s something fake in the case like the old man’s beard. Christmas on the sidewalk.

Maybe it’s because the victim’s husband wants to befriend the suspicious cop in a mysterious tavern through the urban jungle. Or maybe it’s the dual identity of the dead woman and the little black book filled with secret lovers. Whether Sarah, the astute wife, or Sadie, the sex maniac, her murder is more than just a bad case of “wrong place, wrong time”. And Carella won’t rest until handcuffed to the killer.

Ed McBain’s novel The 87th Precinct is a classic of the police procedural genre. They are the original books, grounded in the now long tradition of senseless mysteries based on the day-to-day work of homicide detectives. This is no different. This is a great entry in the series and still very readable and entertaining in 2018.

I have heard and loved Dick Hill’s performance of several Harry Bosch novels. Before that, I always read Michael Connelly’s books. They’re great in both formats, but Hill brings something very special to those stories and to the protagonist, and now I’d rather listen to them. So I bought this book based solely on these experiences, thinking that the narrative would also fit McBain’s book perfectly. Why not?

Well, for some inexplicable reason, Dick Hill decided to add some new emphasis throughout this narrative that I can only assume it was his idea of the “tough guys.” ‘ sounds like it was in McBain’s day. And it simply doesn’t work. In fact, it’s horrible. It ruins the whole listening experience.

An 87th good novel set in the darkness of Christmas.

A woman named Sarah was found in her apartment. Her husband found her but wasn’t upset about it. Det Steve Carella suspected him even when others confessed to the crime. Det Bert Kling has now broken up with his girlfriend Cindy Forrest, he is currently interested in a beautiful young witness. We find out Sarah is living a secret life as Sadie, a fun girl who likes both boys and girls.
