Santa Monica – Audiobook Online By: Cassidy Lucas
A debut novel inspired by Liane Moriarty and Tom Perrotta, about dark secrets that are awakened after the mysterious death of a handsome and charismatic coach among elite Santa women. Monica.
On the western edge of Los Angeles is the stunning seaside city of Santa Monica, where affluent, sunlit residents seem to live out real-life California dreams. When movie star Zack Doheny’s handsome fitness trainer was found dead on the floor of his gym, the tragedy shocked the elite community, especially those who had spent many hours every week to exercise with a charismatic coach.
As the story recounts the months before Zack’s death, it quickly becomes clear that things in this seaside paradise aren’t as sparkling as they seem. Lettie—Zack’s secret half-sister and undocumented housekeeper to Santa Monica’s toned, powerful women— blames her brother for a horrific accident in family, and desperately needs his money to prevent her deportation. Regina, a Type A entrepreneur and exercise addict, will do anything to get out of debt and win Zack for herself.
And Mel — a New York City transplant who finds herself 40 pounds heavier and much more cynical than the lithe ladies in Santa Monica — discovered a strong attraction to Zack, which This risked breaking his relationship with Regina and disrupting Mel’s own marriage. As these Santa Monica residents begin to reveal their secrets, one question hangs over them all: what really happened to Zack Doheny?
Addictive suspense when sharply observed, hilarious, and compassionate, Santa Monica is a rare novel that captures listeners with compelling storytelling alongside emotional urgency, characters irresistible objects, ambitious themes and a lively sense of place.
Great and fun book. If you like the world of exercise and read about the lives of wealthy women in the suburbs with a little suspense, you will love this book!!! Interesting and engaging book throughout.
This is a new author group for me. The book reads well and moves quickly. That is a wonderful story. The characters are complex and interesting. Oh, the life of the super rich! That combined with the undocumented workers of this world makes for a really good book. The struggles are real.
