Save Point: Reload is a science fiction book by author Matthew Siege.
Now that the Citadel litRPG world has chewed up Adam and spit him out, he’s right back to his original Save Point.

Are things better?
He still has brain cancer. On the other hand, he’s in trouble for breaking the rules last time. As punishment, he will have to advise the Colony – a vast race of stray mushrooms that are losing the battle for their home planet.

Adam’s new allies only have a chance if he can unite the two factions in his broken Faction, but first they’ll have to show him that some things are worth – not – resetting.

I really enjoyed the first part of this series. Although it is based on some kind of sci-fi litRPG that I have come across in many places, the author has managed to make it interesting and unexpected. That continues with book two, with a vengeance. The whole “time travel-reset” mechanic makes both the protagonist and me the reader feel like we know what’s going to happen and have some sort of control, and then ALL BOTH disappears rails in new and innovative ways. I especially appreciate the depth of thought brought into the different alien cultures and how they can be fundamentally alien to humans with our own assumptions.

I can complain that there are many opportunities for MC to level up or use skills the “game” has given him that he seems to be blind to, which I can understand partly due to frenzy . present in this case.

I liked the first book but stopped reading after 20% of the second. I expect mc to start over with his advanced knowledge, do stuff from the first try but better, level up a bit, but it’s like a side story without more progress.
The rules of the citadel are arbitrary and a bit out of context. 20% of the book and nothing related to the main story happened so far.
