Scorpion Winter By: Andrew Kaplan – Audiobook Online

Scorpion Winter is a mystery novel by author Andrew Kaplan.
In the icy wastes of Siberia, a silver artifact is stolen from a dead man. . . In the Middle East, a carefully planned attack on a terrorist leader failed miserably. . . Two seemingly unrelated incidents put a former CIA undercover agent, codenamed Scorpion, in a desperate position: teaming up with a beautiful woman to prevent the assassination of a powerful politician. Ukraine.

Betrayal causes terror in the long shadows of dangerous Russia, as Scorpion finds himself caught in a deadly trap set by an unknown enemy – perhaps someone from his side. with him in the game. Time is ticking fast with the whole world balancing on the blade, just days away from the opening salvo of a cataclysmic war that could turn the earth to rubble.

“Scorpion Winter” is the second installment in Andrew Kaplan’s Scorpion series that I’ve read. Scorpion, a former CIA agent turned freelance agent, is tasked with thwarting a plot to assassinate a candidate in Ukraine’s presidential election – an assassination that could plunge the world into World War III when… Russia and NATO are entangled in the alliance.

But someone always seems to be one step ahead of him and Scorpio senses betrayal. Who is responsible for stopping his every move and possibly trapping him as a fallen man – Russian spy, beautiful Ukrainian freedom fighter he is affiliated with, or maybe someone else Is that from his own country? Scorpion finds himself in deep betrayal as he fights to carry out his mission while trying to survive multiple Russian and Ukrainian police forces along with hordes of Russians. Who can he trust and for how long can war break out and he’s not sure who they’re talking about? These questions and somewhat convoluted mystery are solved with a bold, fast-paced conclusion that takes the reader’s breath at times.

This is a good book – very fast paced, but not a great book. I bought this after reading Scorpio’s Betrayal – I Think Scorpio’s Betrayal is better.

The plot in Scorpion Winter is a bit too complicated to be taken seriously. In addition, the author has given up some of his demonstrated abilities to make the reader believe that they are indeed at the place described – the places mentioned in this book are flatter and have two dimensions. , instead of three dimensions.

All that said, this is a fun, fast-paced book to read, if you like old fashioned “super spy” type novels – where all the women are pretty and ready to go to bed with a super spy. spy. This reminds me of a lot of the “male-oriented” action novels of the 70s, in that respect.
