Forbidden passions have been the hallmark of the Dollanganger family since Flowers in the Attic more than 40 years ago. In the third book of this related new trilogy, witness the birth of the Dollanganger curse as Corrine Foxworth’s children learn that family is just destined for another, more sinister name.
As a young girl in France, Marlena Hunter’s life was a fairy tale. She has a father who is a talented artist, a loving mother, and a brother with whom she could not be closer. She loves her family; she just doesn’t know what her family really is. When a car accident kills their parents, Marlena and Yvon lose not only France, but also their identities. Sent to Richmond, Virginia, they arrive at the home of two aunts they’ve never met before, who tell them their real last name is Dawson, that their father ran away from the family years ago – and Now the family is calling for the debt. Trapped in a mansion with as many secrets as rooms, Marlena longs to escape. But in America, you can make friends or make money, and Yvon suddenly seems more interested in the latter. While he is free to leave the house, Marlena is left to hide from lewd tutors and the path of secretarial wife a woman would expect. Caught between mastering the game to escape it and falling prey to its charms, she needs to learn fast – because Malcolm Foxworth has his eye on her. And no surname can protect her from the twisted roots of the Dollanganger family tree.
I like this story better than the previous one in the series. The main character is more likable. I wish it would delve deeper into family history than it did.
I really thought it would be a boring book but it wasn’t, this last story really put things into a different perspective, I can understand everything.
The story of the children in the attic continues as another enters the Foxworth family. It has connections and similarities to her doll family I Grow Flowers in the Attic If you liked that book you will love this one.
