I think I mentioned last week that as soon as I finished Little Beautiful Things, I went back and bought the sequel.

I have no regrets.

The book begins a few months after the first one ended, with the girls entering their final year at the conservatory. Well, all the girls except Bette, who was suspended for her role in the tragedies last year. This time many people are at stake, there are only two positions in the Company and every dancer aspires to win one of them.

The fierce, competitive world of ballet school was well established in the first book, but in this book things are taken to the next level. Even the sweet, lovable Gigi gets in on the action, not wanting to be a victim anymore. And she learned from the best.

The first book in this series got me hooked and I’m so glad I finished the series! The growth of the characters in this book is very well done, something I have not seen in a teen novel. People have experiences that happen to them and it makes sense for those experiences to change their attitudes and make them mature. This book shows that. The end of the book is also very well done and not as cookie cutter as I expected. Overall a great summer reading!
