Stetson Major and Curtis Traynor are almost the opposite of the two cowboys. Stetson is a rancher, attached to the land he loves in Taos, New Mexico, while Curtis is an equestrian cowboy whose whims can never be tamed. Now Stetson’s mother is dying of Alzheimer’s, and she can’t remember that Curtis hasn’t been Stetson’s boyfriend for a long time. Curtis’s absence made her cry. Stetson suppressed his pride and called his ex.

For Curtis, Stetson was the departed, the love of his life. And mom is his friend, so he’s happy to help. Going back to the farm evokes all sorts of emotions that, once buried, never really go away. However, the rodeo nationals are coming and Curtis can’t stay – even as he begins to want to, especially to support Stetson when he needs it most.

Stetson and Curtis wanted to find a place that would work for both of them, to be there to support each other when they fell. But family, money problems, and the calling of the rodeo circuit could end their second-chance romance before it begins.

There’s something special about cowboy romance. I think it’s the tough cowboy image that contrasts with their lovable gentleness. The beginning of the book was sad and I felt sorry for Stetson. The only good thing that comes from his mother’s illness is that Curtis gets to go home with him. I love reading about them building the future together and their plans for the farm.

There’s one thing that I always don’t quite understand about second-chance romance. If you really love someone, like Curtis and Stetson, how can you not contact them all the time? We are talking eight years here. I’ve never experienced it so I don’t know if it works in real life. For now, I’ll put aside my skepticism and enjoy the romance.

The love of a child for his mother and the pain of losing his mother. The love that Stetson and Curtis have for each other never changes. Love for the land, the animals and the life they built there. This is my first book by this author and I look forward to more.
