The Dictator Alliance continues its war against the Cinnabar Republic, and Daniel Leary, newly promoted to Commander, and his crew have a new mission: to prevent Dunbar’s World from falling to the enemy’s invasion planet Pellegrino.

Nataniel Arruns, son of the dictator Pellegrino, landed with a large army, intending to make himself the ruling lord, with the population of the planet becoming serfs of the Pellegrinian lords. And Dunbar’s world has nothing more than their local police force to turn against him.

Leary again commanded the corvette Princess Cecile, but during this mission her rocket tube was empty. Only one man can support Leary, but the rich and powerful would rather see him fail than succeed in stopping the invasion. Leary must somehow overcome a large entrenched force on an island protected by powerful plasma cannons and anti-ship missiles and supported by a heavily armed warship in orbit, all even while in command of a small and mostly unarmed spacecraft.

But Leary has the help of Signals Officer Adele Mundy, who can make computer networks do the seemingly impossible. Leary, Mundy, and Princess Cecile’s crew have faced the impossible before, and their opponents in those triumphant missions are still wondering what hit them.

Good story in the story. Worth reading. A nasty flaw in the kindle version. Moving from one scenario to another without subheadings, sometimes without breaks. When you’re reading an action novel, the setting is everything. If I have to backup and read again due to theme change. Not good.

The plot of the series is the one that I learned when I found the first book in a commercial bookstore, then the other one. I found the military space theme with these two main characters such a unique idea that I bought the rest of the series and placed an order for the upcoming sequel. The only reason for the four stars is because the book itself had a problem with the spine coming apart and I would have to re-glue it.
