Sooley A Novel By: John Grisham – Free Online

Sooley is a literary fiction book by author John Grisham.
John Grisham takes you to a different kind of court in his first basketball novel. Samuel “Sooley” Sooleymon is a young, fledgling talent with big dreams — and even bigger challenges off the field.

In the summer of his 17th year, Samuel Sooleymon had the opportunity of a lifetime: a trip to the United States with his South Sudan teammates to play in an introductory basketball tournament. He’s never been away from home, nor has he ever been on a plane. The opportunity to be sought by dozens of college coaches is a dream come true.

Samuel is an incredible athlete, with incredible speed, agility and a vertical jump. The rest of his game needs to work, and the American coaches are less than impressed.

During the tournament, Samuel receives bad news from his hometown: A civil war is raging across South Sudan and rebels have ransacked his village. His father is dead, his sister is missing, his mother and two brothers are in a refugee camp.

Samuel desperately wanted to go home, but it was impossible. Partly out of sympathy, the North Carolina Central coach offered him a scholarship. Samuel moved to Durham, enrolled in classes, joined the team, and prepared to sit out freshman season. There’s a lot more mature talent out there and he’s not immediately needed.

But Samuel has something that no other player has: a fierce determination to succeed so that he can bring his family to America. He worked tirelessly on his game, throwing his own basket every early morning in the gym, and soon he was dominating everyone in practice. With Central losing and injury after injury, Sooley, as he was nicknamed, was called on from the bench. And the legend begins.

How far can Sooley take his team? And will success allow him to save his family?

Captivating and moving, Sooley presents John Grisham’s unparalleled storytelling abilities from a whole new perspective. This is Grisham at the top of his game.

Is John Grisham deliberately alienating his international fans? It definitely looks that way. Eight years ago he wrote the absolutely horrible baseball novel, ‘Calico Joe’, which I, an Englishman unfamiliar with the sport, managed to follow, completing the book with the intention of I feel like I just finished one of the worst books I’ve ever had. ever read.

Now, with ‘Sooley’, John Grisham seems to have written the second most tedious book he has ever produced. A completely inscrutable novel, (at least to those who aren’t basketball fans) details the basketball games the central character of the same name participates in.

As a longtime fan of John Grisham, I found this book extremely disappointing, and not up to the usual standards we expect from this author. Unusually for me, seventy-three pages, I found the book so boring, I threw it in the trash. Please continue with future courtroom horror movies Mr. Grisham!!!!!!!!!!
