Still Standing – Best Audiobook Online
Still Standing is a great book by Governor Larry Hogan, Ellis Henican.
As the Republican rookie governor of deep blue Maryland, Larry Hogan overcame a number of difficulties. A down-to-earth businessman with a down-to-earth style, he won a lasting election that the Washington Post called “an amazing disappointment”. He worked with police and neighborhood leaders to quell Baltimore’s worst riot in 47 years. He saved his state from financial disaster, winning praise from Democrats, Republicans and independents. But none of that prepared him for the life-threatening challenge he’ll face next: an extremely deadly form of terminal cancer. Can America’s most famous governor beat the odds again?
The people of Maryland, with their “Hogan Strong” arms, are no doubt pulling him, bringing him back to the governor’s office in a landslide. As Governor Hogan begins his second term cancer-free, his next challenge extends far beyond Maryland: bringing our divided nation together for a better future.
In his own words, Larry Hogan tells the delightful story of a new American leader touted as an “anti-Trump Republican.” A person united for life at a time of bitter divisions. A politician with practical solutions gets the best from all sides. An open-minded man has learned important lessons from his own struggles in life.
Mr. Hogan writes a very raw and emotional account of his journey to and in the State. As a Maryland resident, I can personally attest to much of what he wrote in this book. While he still seems surprised at the support of so many Marylanders, I can say that his life in general has prepared him for work. Like many people, I want to believe in the integrity of political individuals, but greed and politics have corrupted the government to the point of ineffectiveness. Governor Hogan proves that’s not necessarily the case and he hopes that there are qualified people who can get the job done without being indicative of special personal interests.
Governor Hogan’s book is a really interesting read. It has nothing to do with politics! (I’m a Democrat)….I really respect him. One of the best true greens to lead Maryland. He talks about his childhood and unbelievable struggle with cancer…
It has a bit of humor and it’s a must read.
