Such A Fun Age – Audiobook Online By: Kiley Reid

An impressive and surprising debut novel from an exhilarating new voice, Such a Fun Age is a heartfelt tale of race and privilege, revolving around a black babysitter whose owner has Her goodwill and a surprising connection threatens to destroy both.

Alix Chamberlain is a woman who gets what she wants and makes her living branded on her confidence, showing other women how to do the same. So she was shocked when her babysitter, Emira Tucker, was confronted while watching Chamberlains’ toddler one night, walking the aisles of the local upscale supermarket their. The store’s security guard, seeing a young Black woman hanging out late with a white child, accused Emira of kidnapping two-year-old Briar. A small crowd gathered, an outsider filmed everything, and Emira was furious and humiliated. Alix is determined to correct the mistake.

But Emira herself is aimless, destitute and wary of Alix’s desire to help. At 25, she was about to lose her health insurance and didn’t know what to do with her life. When Emira’s video unearths someone from Alix’s past, both women find themselves on an accelerated course that will reverse everything they thought they knew about themselves and each other.

With empathy and insightful social commentary, Such a Fun Age explores the closeness of trading relationships, what it means to make someone “family,” and the complex realities of growing up. . It was a stinging debut for our time.

Enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot. Not sure I want to read a book that deals with racism at this point, but I’m glad I did. With a diverse cast of characters, the author has brought views on race, parenting, career search, girlfriend relationships, love relationships (to name a few) into The novel is wonderfully written.

I love this book. While some of it is highly unlikely, it’s written in such a thoughtful and professional manner, with humour, sarcasm, and wit, that I don’t mind at all. The commentary and views of all sides on race and relationships are very direct and full of truth. Nicole Lewis’s narration was perfect and I literally had to say it a few times. The plot leaves me guessing… what is the listening version of the page turner? I would love to introduce.
