Thaumaturge is the eleventh science fiction book in the Spellmonger series by author Terry Mancour.
Spellmonger in exile!

When Minalan the Spellmonger was banished from his beloved magical land of Sevendor by Prince Tavard, his friend the Duke of Anguin made him Count Palatine of Magelaw, a vast kingdom in the Alshari Wilderlands that Minalan had too familiar. Invasion of the elves, the province was devastated, ruined and mostly inhabited by freed slaves. But Minalan has taken his recovering wife and family into exile with him, and he sees their impoverished manor as an opportunity to build a new Wizard City in the wilderness.

He recruits some of his closest friends among the Sorcerers Supreme: Mavone, the military intelligence specialist; Sandoval, Field Marshal in charge of Minalan’s army recruitment; Carmella, whose genius for defensive magic would be the key; Gareth, whose creative ambitions are boundless; and Terleman, perhaps the greatest tactical launch of his time.

Together, Minalan knew they could build their new city, Vanador, into an anvil that would blunt the attacks of the dark forces rising against them. For the first of the three Nemovorti came to Penumbra, and Gaja Katar swore to wipe out humanity from the face of the world. However, he is not Minalan’s worst worry. For the mighty Sea Folk has sent a messenger to meet Spellmonger, and the news he brings will change the fate of all.

Minalan’s only hope is to rely on his cunning and abilities as a Thaumaturge!

Before reading Thaumaturge, I decided to reread the previous ten books in this series first. As a fan of Tolkein, Feist and Martin (and others), I had the opportunity to compare the Spellmonger series to their works. All of these authors have created the worlds on which their stories are based, providing a familiar setting for the stories that follow. The longer the series, the harder it is to maintain consistently high standards of plot, text quality, and continuity.

Having just finished eleven books, I have to give Terry top marks for the product of his ingenuity in every way and especially his enthusiasm for the series. As long as he continues, I will happily continue to buy books. However, it is a bit disappointing that there are no audiobooks from Amazon for the last two books in the series as I use Whispersync to switch between reading and listening. Alexa tries her best, but between her efforts and John Lee’s there is no comparison.
