The Blind Assassin – Audiobook Online

The Blind Assassin – Audiobook Online By: Margaret Atwood

“Ten days after the war ended, my sister Laura drove a car off a bridge.” Thus begins The Blind Assassin, Margaret Atwood’s new novel.

Laura Chase’s older sister Iris, married at 18 to a famous but now poor political industrialist and 82 years old, lives in Port Ticonderoga, a town dominated by their once prosperous family ruled before the First War. While lamenting her unreliable body and mocking those who try to help her, Iris ponders her distant life and her perilous times, but especially on the events surrounding her sister’s tragic premature death.

Chief among these was the publication of The Blind Assassin, a novel that made the dead Laura Chase famous as well as revered: as Iris puts it, she herself lived “in the long shadow cast by Laura” create”. Evocative of time and place, The Blind Assassin depicts a fraught love affair in the tumultuous 30s between a wealthy young woman and a left-wing man on the run.

Haven’t read a good book like this in a long time! I couldn’t put it down, unfortunately saw half a page, 33 pages were missing and instead it was 20 pages from a completely different book and author (Prince Lestat And The Kingdom of Atlantis)! How the hell did that even happen. Does anyone else have this problem? Hopefully I will be able to get a free exchange.

I read The Handmaid’s Tale when I was young but this is the first Margaret Atwood book I ‘read’ in years and I loved it. What at first seems to be a series of different and somewhat slow stories will probably lead to a compelling conclusion. Finally, I can’t wait to get back on the highway and find out what happened.
