The passage is a fascinating book. The kind where you don’t put down and boom in a weekend. This book is not good. It bogged down considerably in the middle when we met “Zero”. I understand what Cronin is trying to do with the character and I don’t normally take the fable for granted but it’s a bit too much here. The pacing issues persisted into the final third of the book. At the climax, I found myself just looking forward to the end. It could have been me but I was disappointed. Not enough not to recommend it. I just wish it was better paced.
