Deep in the Rocky Mountains, a gruesome find – hundreds of mummies – attracts international attention and heated controversy.

Despite doubts about the origins of the bodies, the local Native American Heritage Committee made a claim for prehistoric remains, along with strange artefacts found in the same cave. movement: gold plates engraved with an incomprehensible script.

During a riot at the excavation site, an anthropologist tragically died. All evidence points to a radical group of Native Americans, including an agitator who escaped with a key clue to the murder and called for someone who could help – her uncle, Painted. Crowe, director of Sigma Force. To protect his niece and uncover the truth, Painter will wage a war between the nation’s most powerful intelligence agencies. However, an even greater threat loomed as events in the Rocky Mountains created a geological crisis that threatened the entire western half of the United States.

From the volcanic peaks of Iceland to the blistering deserts of the American Southwest, from the gold vaults of Fort Knox to the bubbling geys of Yellowstone, Painter Crowe teams up with commander Gray Pierce to infiltrate the dark heart of a dark gang that has been manipulating American history since the founding of the 13 colonies. But can he uncover the truth before it destroys everything he holds dear.

I love how James Rollins combines history, science, fiction, and faith into a believable and beautiful story about human life and fallacies. Greed and corruption versus greater good, add action, a bit of romance and real life ups and downs and you have a powerful mix of what makes for a great story.

I don’t know how Rollins manages to take completely unrelated themes and weave them into realistic and relevant storylines. The characters are attractive and believable. Don’t know why this book doesn’t have a “What’s real and what isn’t” appendix at the end, hence the four stars for the story. Maybe it’s just this particular Audible product, but I really miss it. Great storyteller.
