But before becoming a moderator again, he’s determined to include Jennifer Cahill on the Task Force, even though no one else seems willing to give a female civilian a chance. Jennifer herself would rather focus on starting their new company, Grolier Recovery Services, an archaeological research agency that Pike hopes will also serve as sophisticated cover for Special Forces missions duties in the future.

When Grolier received his first job offer to test a website in Roswell, New Mexico, Jennifer convinced Pike to go. But once they arrived, it became clear that there was more going on than a simple search for Indian antiquities, and uncovering well-guarded secrets in the desert not only they have to pay with their future with the Task Force but also their lives.

I like Pike’s stories, just don’t like the two narrators doing the readings. I wish they would stick with just one narrator instead of a two-person format. The short story is good in that it continues to develop the quirky relationship between Pike and Jennifer, which I find amusing.

This short story provides both the adventures of Pike and Jennifer, and provides additional background information on how Pike was able to include Jennifer in the selection process. It also touches on the foundation on which their relationship is building. A nice little story that helps to understand more about the characters and background of the series.
