Wyoming game manager Joe Pickett has two cases to contend with, both deadly, in the gripping new novel from the New York Times bestselling author.
The new governor of Wyoming isn’t sure what to think of Joe Pickett, but he has an extremely delicate job for him. A famous female British executive has never returned home from the high-end guest farm she is visiting, and the British Embassy is under intense pressure. Pickett knows it happens sometimes – these farms are filled with handsome young cowboys, and “farm romances” are not uncommon. But no sign of her months after she disappeared? That suggests something else.
At the same time, his friend, Nate Romanowski, asked Joe to intercede with the federal government on behalf of falconers who could no longer hunt with eagles even though their permits had been issued. Who is blocking falconers and why?
The more he investigates both cases, the more people want him to disappear. Was it because of the missing woman or because he became Nate’s advocate? Or are they connected somehow? The answers, when they came, were even worse than he had imagined.
This is another fun, exhilarating listen by CJ Box. David Chandler has narrated the entire series, and he does a fantastic job. Joe Pickett’s friend Nate makes a reappearance, as he does in most novels and never fails to disappoint. What impresses me most about CJ Box is how well he develops his characters. He can develop a character like Clancy, but in 1/3 the amount of pages. Great audiobook. Highly recommended!
