The Factory Witches Of Lowell – Audiobook Online By: C.S. Malerich

The Factory Witches of Lowell by C.S. Malerich is a gripping historical fantasy about witches on strike in the historic factory town of Lowell, Massachusetts.

Faced with deplorable working conditions, unsympathetic employers and difficult managers, the factory girls of Lowell have had enough. They’re about to go on strike, and they have a secret weapon with them: a little magic to make sure no one leaves the fence.

For young women in Lowell, Massachusetts, freedom means getting paid for good work, having a decent place to live, and having a chance to get out of the cotton mill before the lint chokes their lungs. When the owners in Boston decided to increase the workers’ rent, the girls went on strike. Their leader was Judith Whittier, a newcomer to Lowell who had not joined the class struggle. Judith watched one attack and she has no intention of watching it again. Luckily, Hannah, her best friend in the boarding house – and maybe first love? – there is a gift for the dying art of witchcraft.

Great book. Love the characters. As a history teacher and a union member, this is very close to me. The plot is well done and the pacing is right. It ended a bit too quickly though. I want to follow Hannah and Judith right now.

A working-class tale woven gently with magic, hindered only by its brevity. One or two more developments will strengthen existing themes. The author has a wonderful voice in this witty, important piece. I enjoyed reading and would expect more from this new author.
