The Girl Who Drank The Moon – Audiobook Online

“The Girl Who Drank the Moon” by Kelly Barnhill is a fantasy novel set in a world where the people of one village fear a witch who they believe demands the annual sacrifice of a baby. Unbeknownst to them, the witch, Xan, rescues each baby and takes them to a new family in a nearby village. One year, however, Xan accidentally feeds a baby girl moonlight, which fills her with magic. She decides to take the girl, whom she names Luna, as her own and raises her with the help of a loyal swamp monster and a tiny dragon who thinks he’s huge. As Luna grows older, Xan decides to take her to visit the village where she was supposed to have been sacrificed so that she can learn about her past. When Luna meets the people of the village, she realizes that they are not the dangerous, primitive people she was led to believe they were. Meanwhile, a young man named Antain, who has just been appointed as the leader of the village, begins to question the sacrificial tradition and tries to put an end to it. Through interwoven storylines, the novel explores themes of family, loyalty, and the power of love. It is a tale of magic and wonder that will captivate readers of all ages.

The Girl Who Drank The Moon – Audiobook Online By: Kelly Barnhill

A young girl raised by a witch, a swamp monster, and a perfect little Dragon must unlock the dangerous magic buried deep within her in this coming-of-age fairy tale by the acclaimed author of The Wizarding Boy.

Every year, the people of the Protectorate leave a child as an offering to the witch who lives in the forest. They hope this sacrifice will stop her from terrorizing their town. But the witch of the forest, Xan, is kind and gentle. She shares her home with the Wise Swamp Monster named Glerk and the Perfect Little Dragon, Fyrian. Xan rescues abandoned children and hands them over to welcoming families on the other side of the forest, nurturing the children with starlight on the journey.

One year, Xan accidentally fed a baby with moonlight instead of starlight, filling the ordinary child with extraordinary magic. Xan decides to raise this girl, whom she calls Luna, as her own child. As Luna nears her 13th birthday, her magic begins to appear to go according to plan – but Xan is far away. Meanwhile, a young man from the Protectorate is determined to free his people by killing the witch. Before long, Luna will have to protect those who have protected her – even if it means the end of the safe, loving world she’s always known.

The acclaimed author of The Wizarding Boy has created another epic coming-of-age fairy tale that is destined to become a modern classic.

I started the book in hardcover, but became too busy to finish it. I thank the stars and the moon because I finally finished it in audio form. The narrator is AMAZING. A story shared with your children or alone in your car. Magical, imaginative folktales and unexpected culmination of several storylines will leave you spellbound.

I received this book without realizing it was a YA youth novel and I was a bit disappointed at first but even as a 33 year old woman I still think the story is pretty sweet and well written. Definitely a good book to blow off some steam after reading a lot.
