The Harpy By: Megan Hunter – Audiobook
The Harpy is a novel written by Megan Hunter, published in 2020. The story revolves around a woman named Lucy, who discovers that her husband Jake has been having an affair. In response, she decides to take revenge by becoming a harpy – a mythical creature from Greek mythology known for its vengeful nature.
As Lucy’s transformation progresses, she begins to experience a sense of liberation and power that she had never felt before. However, as her actions become more extreme, she starts to question whether her revenge is worth the cost.
The novel explores themes of betrayal, revenge, and the complexities of human relationships. It also delves into the idea of transformation and the ways in which people can change in response to traumatic events.
Overall, The Harpy is a thought-provoking and emotionally charged novel that offers a unique perspective on the nature of revenge and the human psyche.
Lucy and Jake live in a house next to a field where the sun burns like a fireball. Lucy has put her career aside to dedicate her life to the children, to their streamlined routine, and to the home itself, which comforts her like a sly old friend. But then one afternoon, a man called with a shocking message: His wife was having an affair with Jake, Lucy’s husband. The revelation marks a turning point: Lucy and Jake decide to stay together but make a special deal designed to equalize and save their marriage – she’s going to hurt him three times. time.
As the pair engage in a delicate game of crime and punishment, Lucy herself begins to change, surrendering to a transformation of both mind and body from which there is no turning back.
Megan Hunter’s ‘The Harpy’ left me speechless. It is easily one of the most lyrical and deeply emotional stories I have ever read. Our narrator, Lucy, tells us the story of her husband’s infidelity and how they tried to mend their relationship. Told in timeless snapshots, ‘The Harpy’ is engaging and evokes visceral images and tangible emotions from the reader. Hunter’s ability to sharp focus on the mundane world through Lucy as she navigates her new terrain and explores her wide range of emotions from grief, horror, anger, disgust and tackles while she captures her life – to put it simply – exquisite writing.
