The Hidden Palace / The Golem And The Jinni, Book 2 – Audiobook Online

The Hidden Palace is the second book in The Golem and the Jinni series by Helene Wecker. It continues the story of Chava, the golem, and Ahmad, the jinni, as they navigate life in early 20th century New York City.
The book opens with a new character, Kreindel, a young Jewish woman who has inherited her father’s bakery business in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. As she tries to keep the bakery afloat, she forms a relationship with Saleh, a Syrian immigrant who has also recently arrived in the city.
Meanwhile, Chava and Ahmad are still trying to find their place in this new world. Ahmad, who has been living as a human, is struggling with his identity as a jinni, while Chava is grappling with her own desires and the limits of her abilities as a golem.
Their paths converge when Kreindel and Saleh bring them together to solve a mystery involving a magical artifact that has been stolen from Kreindel’s bakery. As they work to recover the artifact, Chava and Ahmad must also confront their own personal demons and confront the possibility of a future together.
Overall, The Hidden Palace is a beautifully written novel that explores themes of identity, belonging, and the immigrant experience through the eyes of its fantastical characters.

The Hidden Palace / The Golem and the Jinni, Book 2, Audiobook Online By: Helene Wecker

In this enchanting historical epic, set in New York City and the Middle East in the years leading up to World War I .

The long-awaited sequel to New York’s acclaimed bestseller York Times The Golem and the Jinni – Helene Wecker revisits her beloved characters Chava and Ahmad as they face unexpected new challenges in a rapidly changing human world.

Chava is an elf, a woman made of clay, who can hear the thoughts and desires of those around her and feels her nature is bound to help them. Ahmad is a jinni, a restless fire creature who was once free to roam the desert but is now imprisoned in the form of a man. Fearing they’ll be revealed as monsters, these magical creatures hide their true selves and attempt to disguise themselves as humans – just two more immigrants in the bustling world of 1900s Manhattan. Having met under difficult circumstances, their lives are now intertwined – but they are still uncertain about what they mean to each other.

Both Chava and Ahmad have changed the lives of those around them. Park Avenue heiress Sophia Winston, whose brief encounter with Ahmad left her with a strange illness that made her shiver with cold, has traveled to the Middle East to seek a cure. There, she meets Dima, a feisty female jinni who has been banished from her tribe. Back in New York, in an apartment complex on the Lower East Side, a little girl named Kreindel helps her rabbi father build a golem they name Yossele – unaware that she is about to be sent to an uptown orphanage, where the giant Yossele will become her. your only friend and protector.

Spanning the tumultuous years from the early 20th century to the beginning of World War I, The Hidden Palace follows these and other lives as they collide and alternate. Can Chava and Ahmad find their place in the human world while remaining honest with each other. Or will their opposing natures and desires eventually divide them – especially when they encounter, thrillingly, other beings like themselves.

The setting, the characters, the fantasy, the history, the religion, are perfectly combined in these two books. I loved the second book as much if not more than the first. A great sequel to the story and I loved every minute of it. The narrator of these books is absolutely perfect and loves his voice. Helene Wecker has now been added to my list of favorite authors.

The first 2 chapters seemed a bit slow and then I was hooked. I’m so pleased that the narrator of both books is the same person – he’s amazing and I know I wouldn’t enjoy it as much with a different voice. The story is good, sometimes has to be put down, and the second part of the story is very good. The first book left me wanting more – this one left me satisfied.
