“The Hollow Places” is a horror novel by T. Kingfisher. The book follows Kara, a recent divorcee who moves back to her hometown in North Carolina to stay with her uncle, who runs a vintage museum. Trapped inside, she must find her way back to the surface before it’s too late. Kara is joined on her journey by Simon, a friendly yet mysterious local resident who is familiar with the workings of the world beyond the wall. The two navigate the terrifying landscape, encountering a range of bizarre and sinister creatures, as well as an ancient and terrifying deity living among the Hollow Places. The Hollow Places – Audiobook Online By: T. Kingfisher

A young woman discovers a strange gate in her uncle’s house, leading to madness and terror in this gripping new novel from the author of The Twisted Ones “inventive, unexpected, and completely chills” (Mira Grant, Nebula Prize-winning author).

Pray that they are hungry.

Kara found these words in the mysterious bunker she discovered behind a hole in the wall of her uncle’s house. Newly divorced and living at home, Kara is now haunted by these cryptic words and begins to explore the peculiar bunker – only to discover that it contains portals to a multitude of alternate realities. But these places are haunted by creatures that seem to hear thoughts… and the more you fear them, the stronger they become.

With exceptionally “fresh and subversive” prose (SF Bluestocking) and the eerie, sinister wonder found in Guillermo del Toro’s Maze of Pan, The Hollow Places is a gripping horror novel, and other attractions that you won’t be able to pause.

There are some chilling moments, some very confused looks, and some good laughs while following this story. Kind of like Jeff VanderMeer’s Annihilation popped in to get some input on a Neil Gaiman-style story. Kingfisher does a great job of visualizing although I’m still trying to figure out how people might describe the 4th dimension nightmare world.

This book is amazing in every way! author’s voice, excellent narrator, fully three-dimensional characters and a terrifying otherworldly creeping into the world of the characters – I will definitely listen to this again.
