The House We Grew Up By Lisa Jewell In – Audiobook Online

The House We Grew Up In is a novel by Lisa Jewell that tells the story of the Bird family and their struggles with grief, loss, and mental illness. The story is set in Cotswolds, England, and spans over several decades.

The novel revolves around the Bird family’s matriarch, Lorelei, who is a hoarder and has a difficult time letting go of things. Her hoarding tendencies have a significant impact on her family, especially her children. Lorelei’s husband, Colin, tries to help her but eventually gives up and leaves her. This event marks the beginning of the family’s downfall.

The story is told from multiple perspectives, including Lorelei’s daughter Megan, who struggles with her own mental health issues and addiction. Megan’s brother, Rory, is also dealing with his own demons and has a strained relationship with his mother.

As the story progresses, the family faces several tragedies that further strain their relationships. However, they eventually come together to confront their past and try to move forward.

Overall, The House We Grew Up In is a poignant and emotional novel that explores themes of family dynamics, mental illness, and the power of forgiveness.

Meet the picture-perfect Bird family: pragmatic Meg, dreamy Beth, and twins Rory and Rhys, one disruptive adventurer, the other a softer, more sensitive partner. Their father is a sweet, gallant man, but Lorelei, the beautiful, free-spirited mother, is at the center. During those early years, Lorelei tried to freeze time by filling their simple brick house with precious mementos. Easter egg leaves are her favorite. Manual supplies, too. She hung up all the children’s artwork to her husband’s chagrin.

Then, one Easter weekend, a tragedy so devastating that, almost imperceptibly, it began to tear the family apart. Years passed and the kids became adults, while Lorelei became the county’s worst hoarder. She shunned her husband and children and lived as a recluse. But then something happened that beckons the Birds to return to the home they grew up in – to finally understand the events of Easter long ago and uncover many secrets. Secrets hidden in the nooks and crannies of the house.

I really, really like this one. Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Lisa Jewell’s books, and although I like them all, I find them either a bit good or a bad thing when it comes to being great. I think this is great. It hooked me up quickly and I was hooked the whole time.
