The Hundred Days By Patrick O’Brian – Audiobook Online

The Hundred Days by Patrick O’Brian is the nineteenth and penultimate novel in the Aubrey-Maturin series, which follows the adventures of Captain Jack Aubrey and his friend, physician, and spy Stephen Maturin during the Napoleonic Wars.

The novel begins with Aubrey being pardoned for his alleged involvement in stock market fraud and reinstated as a naval captain. He is given command of HMS Worcester and tasked with intercepting a French frigate, Diane, that is carrying a large sum of money to support Napoleon’s return from exile on Elba.

Aubrey successfully captures Diane and her treasure, but not before Maturin is wounded in the battle. While recovering from his injuries, Maturin learns that Napoleon has indeed returned to France and is gathering an army to reclaim his throne.

Aubrey is ordered to take Worcester to the Mediterranean to join Admiral Lord Exmouth’s fleet, which is blockading Toulon. There, he meets up with Maturin again, who has been sent on a secret mission to gather intelligence on Napoleon’s plans.

The novel culminates in the Battle of Waterloo, where Aubrey and Maturin play a small but significant role in the defeat of Napoleon’s forces. The book ends with Aubrey being promoted to rear admiral and Maturin returning to his work as a physician and naturalist.

The Hundred Days is a thrilling and well-researched historical novel that offers a vivid portrayal of life at sea during the Napoleonic Wars. O’Brian’s attention to detail and mastery of nautical terminology make the book a must-read for fans of naval fiction.

For years, critics have celebrated the sea adventures of best-selling author Patrick O’Brian for his stunning blend of raucous excitement and historical accuracy. With The Hundred Days, he transports you to the seas of the Napoleonic era when the French demagogue was making a desperate attempt to control the European world. While Napoleon pursued British troops across Europe, rumors circulated that he had forged secret links with Muslim forces. Soon, an ominous horde of Muslim mercenaries would regroup. In a desperate attempt to avert disaster, the ship’s doctor Stephen Maturin navigates Eastern politics to uncover the truth. And the splendid Major General Jack Aubrey launches a daring mission to destroy the growing Franco-Muslim threat.

Patrick O’Brian encapsulates this brilliantly executed story with elegant language, rich humor, and an authentic vintage atmosphere. With his deep and rumbling voice, narrator Patrick Tull brings the stormy seas and brave ships of the navy to life in colour.

Patrick Tull does a great job narrating this story. The Hundred Days is about the escape by Napoleon from the Island of Elba and the hundred days till Waterloo. The story takes place in the Mediterranean Sea with Aubrey/Maturin trying to destroy French Navy that declare for Napoleon and stop the gold shipment from Napoleon to pay for an mercenary army. Lots of intrigue for Steven Maturin and navel battles for Aubrey.
