Betrayal comes at a cost, in Sean Dillon’s enchanting new thriller from the Sunday Times bestselling author.

Helmand Province, Afghanistan: a lone convoy heading towards a deserted mountain village, led by US Rangers in Mastiff APVs. Stopping to search the area, Rangers were hit by a massive roadside bomb, and half of the patrol was killed or wounded, the rest ambushed with military precision. A nearby British medical team responded to a call for assistance, but all were slaughtered when their Chinook helicopter blew up.

The ambush was terrible, but what’s worse is that, in the midst of battlefield conversation captured by Major Giles Roper, not all of the Taliban’s voices are Afghan accents – some are British, and only Huy speaks with an Irish accent; he even named himself ‘Shamrock’. Why would he commit such a brutal act, but more importantly can he be found before he masterminds another.

Sean Dillon is tasked with hunting down the traitor, with all the resources of the ‘Prime Minister’s private army’ at his disposal. The fast and furious plot sweeps the reader from Pakistan to Algeria to London to Paris to Ireland, with many deaths along the way. The stakes were high for Dillon and the company when a familiar dead face made an impressive reappearance. This time, Dillon won’t just go to war – war will come to him, and he will know that this Judas has al-Qaeda on his side…

My fiance is in jail and found a jack higgen book in the library. Only one. He was captivated. He liked the writing style used and the flow of the stories. He appreciates that the main character is in every book and it really matters which book you choose next! He has read more than 6 books that I ordered for him and still wants more. He’s had trouble finding good authors in the past but there’s something that really resonates with him with jack higgens.

Higgins is a great storyteller. He establishes his characters very early, especially new ones. I feel that I have known his older personality all my life. I only regret that he had to kill the female detective. She is a whining effect to Sean. Higgins has established a great relationship between them, which at times, at least for me, makes me wonder if the relationship is more professional.
