The Lager Queen of Minnesota
- A Novel
National bestseller!
A novel about family, Midwestern values, hard work, fate, and the secrets to making a world-class beer, from the bestselling author of Kitchens of the Great Midwest.
Two sisters, one farm. A family is divided when their father leaves the entire inheritance in common to his young daughter Helen. Despite baking award-winning cakes at the local nursing home, her older sister, Edith, still struggles to make ends meet. So she couldn’t help but wonder what her life would be like with even a fraction of the farm money her sister kept for herself.
With the proceeds from the farm, Helen built one of the most successful light breweries in the country and popularized their company motto: “Drink a lot. It’s Blotz.” While Edith has a heart as big as Minnesota, Helen’s heart is as rigid as a steel barrel. One day, however, Helen will find herself in need of help, and she may find a potential savior near home… if it’s not too late.
Meanwhile, Edith’s niece, Diana, grows up knowing that the real world demands a tougher physical than what her grandmother possessed. She earns the chance to learn the IPA business from scratch – will it change their fortunes forever and possibly reunite her broken family?
Here we meet a lovable, funny, quintessentially American cast of characters eager to make their mark in a world that often turns against them. In this profoundly influential family story, the resolution may take generations, but when it finally arrives, we are surprised, moved, and delighted.
This book was exactly what I needed while catering to the whims/wails of my ailing family over Winter Break. The story is great, but I think it’s the voice of the narrator – Minnesota *in the right place* – that really sells this comedy. I don’t think this book in paper or kindle form will be as good because it’s fun to listen to. I think for the listeners/readers who have enjoyed Where’d you Go Bernadette, Big Little Lies and Eleanor Oliphant perfectly fine, you will definitely enjoy this. Congratulations!
