The Little Friend – Audiobook Online

“The Little Friend” by Donna Tartt tells the story of 12-year-old Harriet, who is obsessed with solving the mystery of her brother’s murder. Her brother, Robin, was found hanging from a tree almost 12 years ago, and no one knows who his killer is. Harriet believes that she knows who the killer is and sets out on a dangerous mission to bring them to justice. Her investigation takes her deep into her family’s history and the seedy underbelly of her small Mississippi town. As she delves deeper into the mystery, Harriet uncovers secrets and betrayals that threaten to tear apart the fragile threads holding her family together. She also forms unexpected friendships with people she never would have imagined spending time with, including her older neighbor, Hely. As Harriet’s investigation intensifies, she begins to come to terms with the reality of her brother’s death and the impact it has had on her family. Ultimately, Harriet’s quest for justice leads to a shocking and unexpected conclusion that changes her and her family forever. “The Little Friend” is a haunting and powerful novel that explores the themes of loss, grief, and the lengths we will go to in order to uncover the truth. Tartt’s prose is lyrical and evocative, creating a vivid sense of place and drawing the reader into Harriet’s world.

The Little Friend – Audiobook Online By: Donna Tartt

As the second novel by Donna Tartt, bestselling author The Goldfinch (2014 Pulitzer Prize winner), The Little Friend is an ambitious and wildly engaging novel about childhood, innocence and evil.

The setting is Alexandria, Mississippi, where on Mother’s Day, a boy named Robin Cleve Dufresnes is found hanging from a tree in his parents’ yard.

Twelve years later Robin’s murder is still unsolved and his family is still devastated. So Robin’s sister Harriet – terrifyingly intelligent, unstoppable and unduly influenced by Kipling and Robert Louis Stevenson’s novels – sets out to unmask his killer. Aided only by her adoring friend Hely, Harriet transcends the town’s rigid caste and racial boundaries and delves into her family’s lossy history.

Brimming with plot twists and “a boisterous, ridiculous humanity worthy of Dickens” (The New York Times Book Review), The Little Friend is the enthralling work of a writer whose extraordinary talent.

First of all, the narrator is amazing and second of all, this is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. I love the setting, I love the plot and most of all I love the characters. The narrator did a great job of bringing people to life and I’m from the south myself so a lot of these names and sayings stick with me.

Tartt’s test is wonderfully descriptive, evoking sounds, smells, sight and taste. So much so that it seems entirely true and acceptable that the plot is nothing much. How important is it. The book flows smoothly, like life. Harriet was an attractive twelve – year – old. Tartt has somehow retained more of a sense of childhood than any other author I know.
