The Lives of Edie Pritchard By Larry Watson – Audiobook Online

The Lives of Edie Pritchard is a novel written by Larry Watson. Set in the fictional town of Holt, Montana, the story revolves around the life of Edie Pritchard, a woman who struggles to find her place in a changing world. The narrative spans several decades, exploring themes of love, loss, identity, and the impact of societal expectations on individuals.

The novel begins in the 1940s when Edie is a young girl living on a ranch with her parents. She grows up in a conservative and traditional environment, where women are expected to conform to certain roles and expectations. However, Edie is a free spirit who yearns for something more than the limited options available to her.

As she enters adulthood, Edie becomes involved in a passionate but tumultuous relationship with Tom Stuart, a charismatic and rebellious man. Their relationship challenges societal norms and exposes Edie to new experiences and perspectives. However, their love affair is not without its complications and hardships.

Throughout the novel, Watson explores the complexities of human relationships and the consequences of choices made. Edie’s journey is marked by personal growth and self-discovery as she navigates through various relationships and life events. She faces heartbreak, betrayal, and tragedy but also finds moments of joy and fulfillment.

The narrative also delves into the broader social context of the time period, touching on issues such as gender roles, societal expectations, and the changing dynamics of rural communities. Through vivid descriptions and well-developed characters, Watson paints a rich portrait of small-town life in mid-20th century America.

Edie – smart, confident, beautiful – always works hard. She works as a teller at a bank, she works to save her first marriage and then she works to raise her daughter even when her second marriage falls apart. . Really, Edie just wanted to have a good life, but wherever she went, her looks defined her. Two brothers compete for her. Her second husband became possessive and jealous for no reason. Her daughter resented her. And now, as a grandmother, Edie finds herself harassed by a young man. It’s been a lifetime of proof that she’s allowed to exist in her own realm. The Lives of Edie Pritchard tells the story of a woman just trying to be herself, even as many men try to categorize and possess her.

Such a beautiful, authentic and moving song…it was long but I stayed with it and I’m glad I did…Edie went through a lot of hardships with men who didn’t deserve it. with her…but she was the one who survived and finally figured it out
Holly Palance has a great voice and did a great job with the tempo and brought Edie to life

A powerful story about a woman’s journey to find herself. I think every woman can relate to at least some part of Edie’s experience.
Holly Palance’s narration expertly takes us through the winding path in Edie’s life from a young sex object to an older, mature Edie who owns who she is.
Well written (I want to visit Montana!) and touchingly performed.
