The Lost Art of Gratitude By Alexander McCall Smith – Audiobook Online

The Lost Art of Gratitude is the sixth book in the Isabel Dalhousie Series written by Alexander McCall Smith. The series follows the life and adventures of Isabel Dalhousie, a philosopher and amateur detective living in Edinburgh, Scotland.

In this installment, Isabel finds herself facing various moral dilemmas and ethical conundrums as she navigates through her personal and professional life. The book explores themes of gratitude, forgiveness, and the complexities of human relationships.

The story begins with Isabel receiving an unexpected inheritance from a distant cousin. This windfall leads her to reflect on the nature of gratitude and how it can be expressed in our daily lives. As she ponders this, she becomes involved in a number of situations where gratitude plays a significant role.

One of the main plotlines revolves around Isabel’s niece, Cat. Cat is engaged to a wealthy businessman named Leo, who has recently been diagnosed with a terminal illness. As Leo’s health deteriorates, Cat finds herself torn between her love for him and her desire for financial security. Isabel must navigate this delicate situation and help Cat find her own path to gratitude and fulfillment.

Meanwhile, Isabel’s relationship with her longtime partner, Jamie, faces its own challenges. Jamie is offered a job opportunity in another city, forcing Isabel to confront her fears of change and abandonment. As she grapples with these emotions, she learns the importance of expressing gratitude for the love and companionship she has experienced throughout their relationship.

In addition to these personal struggles, Isabel also finds herself embroiled in a professional dilemma. She is asked to investigate a potential case of fraud involving an art dealer who may be selling counterfeit paintings. As she delves deeper into the investigation, she must confront her own biases and preconceptions about art and authenticity.

Throughout the book, McCall Smith weaves together these various storylines with his trademark wit and charm. He explores the complexities of human nature and the challenges we face in expressing gratitude and forgiveness. The Lost Art of Gratitude is a thought-provoking and introspective novel that invites readers to reflect on their own lives and relationships.

New York Times bestselling author Alexander McCall Smith has created an entertaining sixth novel starring the always virtuous Isabel Dalhousie.
When Isabel runs into Minty Auchterlonie for the first time in years, she (again) doubts Minty’s integrity. But Minty mentions that the bank where she works is in internal trouble, and Isabel must determine once and for all whether Minty can be trusted.

Davina Porter made this series. Her soft Scots accent is perfect. Enjoy the wandering of philosophical thought along with the plot of the story. You must be in the mood for this series. But it always leaves you with some issues to ponder for a while. I know some people who don’t care about this kind of book but love it. I also like philosophy.

I love the way Alexander McCall Smith writes a novel that seems fairly simple but is filled with insightful observations about life and is imbued with morality.
This is my favorite in the series, by far.
I pay special attention to the fact that in 2008 he correctly predicted what would happen right now with the Covid pandemic. Specifically, overpopulation, world travel and climate change will all conspire to create new viruses and diseases worldwide.
The bottom line is this: I love reading anything by someone with a heart and a mind.
Of course, that helps him have such a great vocabulary and frame of reference.
