The Lost World is a novel written by Michael Crichton, which is the sequel to Jurassic Park. The plot centers around Ian Malcolm’s realization that there is a second island, “Site B,” where dinosaurs were bred before being transported to the park. Malcolm leads a team of scientists and adventurers to the island, where they encounter a variety of dangerous dinosaurs and a ruthless team of hunters who are illegally collecting the creatures for a zoo. Their goal is to document the wildlife of the island, but they quickly become embroiled in a battle for survival as they attempt to escape the island with their lives. In the end, they succeed in evading both the dinosaurs and the hunters and escape the island.

This might become one of my favorite books of all time. I feel like there’s so much to love. I don’t care if he’s just monetizing the success of the movie Jurassic Park. I’m not even mad that Malcolm’s death has been redacted. What angers me is that Hollywood took a beautiful book and cut it into pieces and tried to dazzle us with animated dinosaurs. Okay, I like cartoon dinosaurs too, but still – not necessary.

I will start my review by saying that I did not like this novel as much as the first one, Jurassic Park. While this is an extremely quick and easy read, I would have preferred if Crichton had cut out about a hundred pages of extra information that in my opinion doesn’t add to the story. Other than that, wow. What an engaging, action – packed book. Crichton sure knows how to take his audience by the hand and take them on a roller coaster ride to a completely different world—one where you’re sure to get Lost.
