In this magnificent tale, Winston Groom brings his signature narrative panache to the story of our nation’s most compelling founding fathers – Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams – painting a vivid picture of the unlikely events, bold ideas, and extraordinary characters that created the United States of America.

When the Revolutionary War came to a successful end, one big problem remained: forming a viable democratic government in the vast, newly independent country. Three key founders played a key role: John Adams, the smart, austere New Englander; Thomas Jefferson, Southern aristocratic revivalist; and Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the Caribbean island of Nevis. In this compelling story, bestselling author Winston Groom illuminates these men as patriots fundamentally responsible for the ideas that have shaped emerging America. Their lives couldn’t be more different, and their relationship with each other is often filled with hatred. However, they led the charge – two of them created and signed the Declaration of Independence, and the third established the national treasury and the earliest sketch of a Republican party. The times in which they lived were fraught with peril, and their achievements strained by broad antagonisms recall today’s acute political polarization. But through it all, they managed to shoulder the responsibility of creating the United States of America, putting aside their differences to create a great country. Drawing on many correspondences, Groom shares the remarkable story of the beginnings of our great nation.

If Winston Groom and David McCullough were to write American History for schools, we would have a much more engaged and passionate constituency. Featured stories are written with a little color-perfect commentary. You will love this book!

I like the layout of the book and the way the author weaves the lives together to get the full picture of their shared history. A fine, condensed history of these three great patriots. Another great book by Winston Groom and well worth the time.

I wasn’t expecting too much from this book, just another book on Founders. Boy, I was wrong! I really can’t put this book down! The Patriots is well written and interesting, it delves deeper into their family life and the agreements, disagreements, etc. between the three men. The author did his research for the book at the National Archives. Winston Groom in my new favorite author, I ordered 4 more of his books. Hard to wait.
