The Princess and the Fangirl – Audiobook Online
The Princess and the Fangirl is the second book in the Once Upon a Con series written by Ashley Poston. It is a contemporary young adult novel that combines elements of romance, fandom culture, and identity exploration. The story takes place at ExcelsiCon, a fictional convention celebrating all things geeky.
The book follows two main characters: Imogen Lovelace and Jessica Stone. Imogen is a die-hard fan of the Starfield franchise, which is at the heart of the Once Upon a Con series. She is also an aspiring writer who dreams of creating her own stories. On the other hand, Jessica is an actress who played the lead role in Starfield’s reboot movie. However, she feels trapped by her fame and wants to break free from the constraints of her character.
When Jessica decides to leave the Starfield franchise, Imogen sees this as an opportunity to save her favorite character and convince Jessica to stay. Imogen hatches a plan to swap places with Jessica at ExcelsiCon, hoping to use her insider knowledge as a fan to change Jessica’s mind. However, things don’t go as smoothly as planned.
As Imogen tries to navigate her new role as Jessica Stone, she discovers that being in the spotlight isn’t as glamorous as she imagined. She faces challenges such as dealing with paparazzi, managing fans’ expectations, and trying to keep up with the demands of being a celebrity. Meanwhile, Jessica enjoys her newfound freedom but soon realizes that leaving Starfield might have been a mistake.
Throughout the story, both Imogen and Jessica learn valuable lessons about identity, authenticity, and following their passions. They also form unexpected friendships and find support in unlikely places. As they face various obstacles together, they discover that they have more in common than they initially thought.
The Princess and the Fangirl explores themes of fandom culture, self-discovery, and the blurred lines between fiction and reality. It delves into the complexities of fame and the pressures that come with it. The book also highlights the power of storytelling and the impact it can have on individuals’ lives.
Overall, The Princess and the Fangirl is a heartwarming and entertaining novel that will resonate with fans of geek culture, as well as those who enjoy stories about personal growth and finding one’s voice.

The Princess and the Fangirl
- A Geekerella Fairytale (The Once upon a Con Series, Book 2)
- Narrated by: Eileen Stevens, Emily Lawrence, Caitlin Davies
Imogen Lovelace is an ordinary fangirl on an impossible mission: to save her favorite character, Princess Amara, from being killed from her favorite series, Starfield. The thing is, Jessica Stone, the actress who plays Princess Amara, wants nothing more than to leave behind the intense scrutiny of the fandom. If this year’s ExcelsiCon isn’t her last, she’ll consider her career derailed.
When a case of identity confusion causes Imogen and Jess to look alike, they quickly become enemies. But when the script for the Starfield sequel is leaked, and all signs point to Jess, she and Imogen have to switch places to find out who’s responsible. That is easier said than done as the girls put themselves in each other’s shoes and explore new possibilities for romance, as well as another side of the intense fandom. As these “princesses” race to find the leaker of the script, they must rescue themselves from their own expectations and redefine what it means to live happily ever after.
The retelling of classic stories we grew up with but with a modern twist is what keeps me coming back to the series. I wish there had been more time for Ethan and Imogene, but the focus of the book is on Jess and her dilemmas, which I respect but don’t care much about.
I really enjoyed this book! In fact, the series may be behind the fee wall, I’d be happy to credit my credit. The story rich in action, passion and the world of funds is something new to me. The homosexual relationship in the story is also natural, not forced like some other stories. There are no obvious romantic scenes. And there are some nice thoughts and messages about self-esteem and respect for others in the story. I will definitely let my teenage kids listen to it as well.
Immerse yourself in a world of geeks and bookworms tinged with fairy dust at this year’s Excelcicon once again! Jess and Imogen tell the fairy tale of the Prince and the Beggar on a star-studded spin around conference floors rife with the hassle of being a teen movie star and a teen fangirl. Thrilling, touching, real and honest, a fun ride to the end. Look up at the stars, aim, … burn!
