“A heartbreaking quest for identity that every YA reader will relate to, and delve into what family means.” (Ellen Hopkins, number one New York Times bestselling author)

Debut author Dante Medema explores the emotional fallout after a teenage girl discovers she’s the product of an affair. Told through a series of poems, texts and emails, this contemporary YA is perfect for fans of Gaby Dunn and Allison Raskin.

Cordelia Koenig, 17, plans to take a peek at her senior project. While her colleagues tensed, Cordelia planned to use the same idea of genealogy that her sister used years ago. And working with her longtime lover, Kodiak Jones, is going great. All she needs to do is mail her DNA sample, write about her ancestry results, and get an easy A.

But when Cordelia’s GeneQuest results reveal that her father is not who she thought he was, but a stranger living thousands of miles away, her entire world falls apart. Now she’s not sure of anything – not the mother who lied, the man she calls dad, or the girl staring at her in the mirror.

If your life begins with a lie, how can you be sure what is true?

Great novel from a debut author. My daughter read it and insisted I read it too. I’m so glad I did. Cordelia, Kodiak, and Sana are characters you’re automatically interested in. The writing is poetic and lyrical. It’s a journey of finding what it means to be who you really are. I wish there was a little more background on Kodiak’s Tlingit platform. The novel is lovely and a joy to read. Ms. Medema is an author to watch.
