With the help of her allies, including her vampire roommate Ivy, her pixie partner Jenks, and the mysterious Trent Kalamack, Rachel delves deeper into the conspiracy behind the virus.
As Rachel unravels the mystery, she uncovers a plot involving powerful individuals who seek to manipulate and control both humans and supernatural beings for their own gain. Along the way, she faces numerous challenges and dangers, including encounters with dangerous vampires, dark magic, and personal betrayals.
Throughout the story, Rachel also deals with personal struggles and emotional conflicts. She grapples with her complicated relationship with Trent, who has his own secrets and agendas. The Undead Pool / The Hollows, Book 12, Audiobook Online By: Kim Harrison
New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison returns to Rachel Morgan’s supernatural adventures in the penultimate book of the Hollows series.
Witch and day – walking demon Rachel Morgan knows magic – earth, ley lines, even forbidden magic – and that knowledge has saved her life more than once. But now something – or someone – is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong while live vampires attack humans as well as the Inderlands.
Pressure mounts as the city is quarantined to contain unreliable magic, and Rachel must stop the attacks before the undead vampire masters who control the rest of the undead are destroyed, lost and it turned into a full – blown supernatural war.
The only way to do so is through the ancient magic of the elves, but that brings its own perils – for magic always has its price and the gods don’t easily receive the call.
As always with this series, the relationships between the characters are very well done, they grow and change, just like in real life and that makes things interesting. Also, thanks to Kim, for not including the full spectrum of sexual content that seems so common in other occult books these days. I love this series about friendship, love, loyalty, yes – there are some sexy moments and that’s great. Glad it doesn’t move into the light erotic genre these days like so many other writers do.
I’m not sure what to expect when the series comes to an end, but this book certainly caught on with its nonstop action and drama. I love the characters and how their relationship with each other has changed since the beginning of the series. It’s a more “dramatic” book than her others, which may be disappointing for some who are used to Rachel doing stupid things and getting into a lot of trouble (she still do), but I think that if people think back to the point where they reached a turning point in the “drama” in their lives and spend a lot of time going back and forth deciding which path to take, going is something we all do. What I really liked about this book is how ordinary Rachel is, in previous books I would think “why would you let pride make your life harder… that’s not smart a lot”, but I can really think of this book when I think about how I’ve dealt with difficult decisions in my life. I almost feel like this might be the last book and it will have a good ending, but I’m glad there’s one more book to look forward to.
