Karla Cornejo Villavicencio was featured on This American Life on NPR April 10, 2020, she read an excerpt from her life and it was really heartbreaking and raw. It breaks my heart when someone right here in the United States, right now is being treated like trash, is less. It’s disgusting and we don’t do enough. This is not the ideal that I served during my time in the military. We can do more. We must do more. In this place, no one is more powerful than anyone else, all humans have the same inheritance rights.

I felt brought into the experience of living in America without papers.. the fear, the struggle, the dismissal and the cruelty and unrecognition of a life. This is a very important job. I like the author’s openness about mental health and how they interact with the people whose stories are featured. They were able to capture such intimacy, I love and want to protect everyone in this book. I will recommend this book to everyone.
