The Unidentified – Audiobook Online

The Unidentified is a book written by Colin Dickey that explores the phenomenon of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and the cultural impact they have had throughout history. Dickey delves into various case studies, historical events, and conspiracy theories surrounding UFO sightings, providing a comprehensive analysis of the subject matter.
Dickey begins by examining the origins of UFO sightings, tracing them back to ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians and Greeks who reported witnessing strange aerial phenomena. He then moves on to discuss more recent sightings, including the famous Roswell incident in 1947, where an alleged UFO crash occurred in New Mexico. Dickey critically evaluates the evidence and testimonies surrounding these events, shedding light on the controversies and inconsistencies that have emerged over time.
Throughout the book, Dickey also explores the psychological and sociological aspects of UFO sightings. He delves into the concept of “UFO religions,” which are belief systems that have emerged around the idea of extraterrestrial life visiting Earth. Dickey examines how these beliefs have shaped individuals and communities, often blurring the lines between faith, science fiction, and conspiracy theories.
Moreover, Dickey investigates government involvement in UFO research and cover-ups. He discusses classified documents released through Freedom of Information Act requests, revealing instances where governments have actively investigated UFO sightings while keeping their findings hidden from the public. Dickey analyzes these cases to understand why governments would choose to withhold information and what implications this secrecy has for society.
In addition to exploring historical cases, Dickey also examines contemporary UFO sightings and encounters. He investigates abduction stories, close encounters, and encounters with unidentified aerial phenomena by military personnel. By examining these accounts, Dickey aims to understand why people continue to report such experiences and what they may reveal about our collective psyche.
Overall, The Unidentified provides a comprehensive overview of UFO sightings throughout history while critically analyzing their cultural significance. It delves into the psychological, sociological, and governmental aspects of the phenomenon, offering readers a thought – provoking exploration of the unknown.

“Absolutely perfect for the moment.” (Buzzfeed)

America’s beloved cultural historian and author of Ghostland takes a tour of the country’s most persistent “unexplained” phenomena.

In a world where rational, scientific explanations are more readily available than ever before, belief in the unprovable and absurd – on the edge – is on the rise: from Atlantis to aliens, from Earth is flat to the Loch Ness monster, the list goes on. It seems that the more our map of the known world is filled in, the more we crave mysterious locations filled with strange creatures.

Enter Colin Dickey, cultural historian and quaint tour guide. With the same curiosity and insight that has made Ghostland so appealing to readers and critics alike, Colin examines the common ground of all fringe beliefs, explaining that today’s Illuminati are the flat Earths of today past: the search for meaning in a world devoid of miracles. Dickey visits the wacky sites of America’s wildest fringe beliefs – from the famous Mount Shasta where an ancient race (or extraterrestrials, or maybe both, depending on who you ask) ) called the Lemurians who are said to have wandered, to the museum containing the last “evidence” of the great meat rain in Kentucky – investigate how these theories came to be, why they are valuable and why as Americans we keep inventing and reinventing them decade after decade The unidentified was Colin Dickey at his peak : curious, witty, excellent analysis but still extremely engaging.

I really like this book. Dickey shares some great stories and then dives into each one exploring social issues at the time, possible explanations, evidence for and against, but really focuses focus on humanity. The book gives us a glimpse of why we need myths. I’m a believer in strange and inexplicable things and I don’t feel like Dickey is tearing these stories apart. He is very respectful and eager to learn. It was a pleasure to read.

Overview ahead, please continue with an open mind… This is not an in – depth analysis of the unknown. So – called experts on the topics this book covers will decry the author’s sloppy attitude and shallow immersion in the “truths” that “they” know about them. The real mystery here is how this issue came to light and how it became sensationally mainstream starting with the heartfelt testimony of “honest” citizens who were turned away. into mature fodder for sale to the public through pulp publications in the mid-twentieth century. “Truth” gives birth to “fictional product” gives birth to “myth” gives birth to “curious speculation about the truth”… is the product still selling well… wink, wink .
