Newly widowed and penniless by her scheming Ponzi husband, Julia Bishop is eager to start over.

As Julia learns why Amaris chose to give up her successful writing career and retreat from the public eye, her search leads to unsettling connections to her own genealogy. , making her wonder why she had actually been invited to Havenwood in the first place, and what monstrous secrets were still imprisoned within its walls.

I love a good ghost story. Judith’s life is in turmoil. When her husband, a fraudster facing a prison sentence, commits suicide, Judith has no money left, her home is foreclosed on, faces lawsuits and possibly jail time. When a man appeared offering her a job for a famous writer at the writer’s mansion, she jumped at the opportunity. However, once things start to unravel as Judith begins to see everything – whether it’s her potions or ghosts.

Wendy Webb gets better and better with every book she writes. The disappearance kept me awake past bedtime for many nights. Some nights, I even wake up to read after the lights have been turned off… and then continue to dread turning them off ag. That’s not because the book is scary or bloody, but just because it’s so creepy. You never know what you are dealing with or are about to face. The ending seems to be for you to explain yourself, which is the only thing that I don’t like from afar. I like things explained, even if they’re not completely resolved. However, that’s not bothering me enough to lower my rating from five stars. I can’t stop reading this book and it’s definitely my favorite.
